Y3 - Stone Age Experience Day - Sep 2024

As part of our topic and our English, we often have experience lessons to keep the children engaged in their learning. This morning we have been out in our environmental area, pretending to be stone age people living during stone age times. The children have had to make their own shelters, whittle tools to use and work together to achieve their goals. We also had a fire, to keep us warm.

In the afternoon, we had art. As a class they had to work together again, to create a cave painting. We used some of the burnt wood left over from the morning, and other natural products of our environment e.g. mud, grass, flower petals etc. The children created a fantastic masterpiece which will be displayed in our window.

When I asked the children at the end of the day some of the things they have enjoyed this is what they said:

"Helping people make tepees." - Robyn

"Den building with my friends." - Spencer

"When I was drawing and making the animals drawings using charcole with a whittled stick and made it pointy." - Emily

"Working with my friends." - Lizzie

"Doing the whittling." - Betsy

"Building the dens." - Erica

" I liked playing with my friends in the outdoor learning area." - Rowie

"Den building with Louis." - Cooper

"I liked making pretend fire, making the sticks like they have got fire on them." - Charlotte

All of the children agreed that they have really enjoyed spending the day outside and getting really involved in their learning!
