Y3 - Butser Farm trip - Sep 2023
Yesterday, Year 3 visited Butser Ancient Farm where we got to experience lots of different activities relating to our topic of The Stone Age.
Firstly, we went and took part in an archaeological excavation, where we went hunting for different materials in the sand. The children had to use a trowel to dig through the sand and find items such as bones, metal objects, flint, stones and so much more.
Next, we took part in some clunching. This consisted of the class bashing chalk and breaking it down into a powder. This was then mixed with straw and water to create daub. Using the daub, the children helped to build part of a wall.
After lunch we then took part in some chalk carving. Using natural resources like coal and leaves to give the chalk some colour and then using flint, they carved patterns into the chalk.
Lastly, the children were taught how to do cordage and were able to thread a bead onto a piece of straw.
We were very lucky with the weather for most of the day! Thank you to those that came along and helped out Green Class too!
