Welcome
The Joy, The Journey, The Learning
Walberton and Binsted is a busy, exciting, caring and vibrant school where children come first and are at the centre of all that we do. Staff and volunteers help to provide the children with many wonderful exciting learning opportunities with which they can explore, immerse themselves, challenge their own thinking and achieve.
We enjoy being a diverse community and embrace the Christian message of loving one another as we would like to be loved. We each enjoy our uniqueness and individuality whilst recognising that we are all equal and should respect one another in our values and in our actions. Our Christian ethos underpins our school’s motto, its aims and values.
We recognise that starting school is a very important time in a child’s life. We strive to make the transition from home to school as smooth and anxiety free as possible, for both the child and for you as parents! We aim to give new entrants a happy, positive foundation from which to build as we want the children to do well at school and have high expectations of themselves in terms of work and behaviour. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum to engage the children fully in their exploration of learning. The many opportunities that are available to us in our locality and through our very talented parents and friends are embraced to enrich children’s learning. As they journey through primary school life we will equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for future careers ahead of them.
What can we offer you?
Our school comprises of seven classroom areas within the main building, with adjoining cloakroom and toilet facilities, a rainbow room/ classroom area, a music room, a studio for cookery/ design work, a hall, a library, a computer suite, several group learning spaces across an ‘airy’ atrium, including a quiet room and administrative accommodation.
Around the front of the school, there is a hard-surface playground with a large ‘quiet’ area with seating around our old oak tree, an adventure play trail, a quiet reflective area with praying hands in which children can sit and explore their spirituality, a willow tunnel, an environment area for wildlife with its own orchard, a large school field and a round-house utilised in many ways. Each classroom has its own flower/ vegetable garden.
Around the back of school we are extremely proud of how the Reception and KS1 area has ‘grown’ with the dedication and commitment of our talented premises manager and our staff. This area now hosts an adventure area, a quiet seating area, a large mound with slide, climbing points, tunnel and sensory trail, a mud kitchen, plant and digging areas, and a trike/ road area. There are two purpose built, half-enclosed outdoor classrooms for Reception children, Year One and Year Two with vibrant canopies, full scale blackboards, large wooden stencils, a large shop-front, water maze and music station!
What does effective learning look like at Walberton and Binsted CE Primary School?
We believe that the most effective learning takes place when:
- Children are happy, safe and secure
- Children are active and busy learners
- Children share the responsibility for their own learning
- Lesson delivery is engaging, appropriate for ability and relevant to learners
- Children understand and can enquire
- The environment is supportive of current learning
- The adult team works and develops together
- There is a supportive relationship between the school, home and local community
The first years of education are the most vital and it is a time when our children develop many of the attitudes and abilities that will shape their lives. In order for your child’s primary years with us to be both happy and rewarding we will support them with an enthusiastic, hard-working and caring staff, a dedicated PTA committee and a supportive and active governing body.
We welcome you!
